200 – Evolution

Before I write anything else I’m just letting you guys that I’m taking a break from drawing next week and will, instead, post some of my favorite strips. And I’ll be doing that Monday through Friday! I wish I could say it’s so that I could step back and relax, but it’s not. I have to work on other projects (Imy related) and I really need that time. So the next comic will post on January 18th. I’ll post more about next week’s schedule under “news” over the weekend.
Two hundred baby!!!! WOO! I can’t believe I’m here! The last hundred just FLEW by. I have enough for 2 books now (if I do 100 a book). And I’m starting book one now (more on that soon!).

I have to tell a funny story. While I was working on this comic yesterday, I started to feel really down about everything (drawing wise) and my lack of art education, and I started to tweet about it and went into a downward spiral of self-loathing. If you’re an artist, I’m sure you can relate.
Some of the better gems of the evening:
Sorry for the ranting folks. I’m feeling really really frustrated with drawing the simplest of things tonight and it’s eating at my soul
I hate that I struggle drawing the some of the same little thing every single damn time and can never feel like I get better at it.
I feel like I’m practicing practicing some of these things 4 years with 0 progress. I don’t know what more 2 do
All of this while creating the above strip. Yeah. I’m totally laughing about it now. But it’s crazy how I could completely ignore what it was I was trying to convey with this strip, and let myself get into such a state. Ah, the mind of an artist is not always a pretty one!
Anyways, thanks for sticking with me for 2 years and 200 strips! There’s plenty more to come!
Yay!!! 200 comics is a milestone. I love seeing how characters progress and evolve.

but it is unbelievable also for me – that I am reading Imy for such a long time 
and come on your artists mind, you are getting better with every strip you make and I am just a non-expert and I can see that

Big congrats, Irma! Quite an accomplishment. Like I said in Twitter, these self-doubt spells happen to us all – even the really good artists. You just have to push through. I was there last week myself.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the book and more Imy for 100 more!

I think every artist experiences self-doubt. There might be a few artists out there who never beat themselves up over their work. If so, I hate them.

looking forward to a future book – it would be nice if it had bonus comics and commentary/facts to entice more people to buy. I’ve bought online comic books where they were just the comics, it is nice, but sort of a let down.
That is DEFINITELY my plan. I wouldn’t do a full volume without some extras to make it worth it!

Congrats on TWO HUNDRED! wow! And look at this way, 98% of webcomics never even make it to 200 comics, probably not even 100. So, that’s some success right there.
And the fact that I just pulled that percentage outta my butt proves you have readers who are dedicated and want you to feel appreciated. or that I am a compulsive liar. But go with the first. :0D

Congrats on 200 Irma! you are a great artist just remember that when you are down and in doubt you have people like us who comment ( ok i dont very often but i’m shy :S) and believe in your work!

Man this is hard. Just joined Girlmatic and went nosing around the forum and there’s this comment from you with a link here. You’ve just had 35 minutes of my life that I won’t get back and you are most thoroughly welcome to them. Summer Story was excellent. Congrats on hitting 200 strips too. I’ll be back for more.
Wow thank you! At first I got scared becasue I thought you were going to say that you wanted your 35 minutes back LOL I really appreciate the nice comment and I hope you return! (a shame you had to get here right when I was going to take a week break!)
I think a bit of self-loathing seems standard for lots of artists; you just deal with it by challenging yourself to get better and try new things (and other artists deal with it by quitting altogether, which of course gets you nothin’). Be content with who you are as an artist and ask yourself what is it you really want to create. It’s YOUR art; no one’s standing next to you with a shotgun telling you how to do it (unless if you work in a studio and the art director has a shotgun).
