So would this be better or worse than when that one year when they went to the pumpkin farm and made Jay carry like five pumpkins at once? He’s not carrying them this time, but there are more pumpkins…

  4. Doug

Advent calendars… I forgot about those. *makes note to pick one up near the end of November…*

That said, I need to come up with a Halloween costume… *considers cosplaying Jay…*

My GF yelled at me yesterday for doing the same thing. i went to the pumpkin patch and came back with five pumpkins (they were all different sizes and I didn’t know what size she prefers so I got a variety).

Side note and this is a stupid stupid question… do they have pumpkins in Europe? I’m sure they have them, but I mean are they are popular and widespread as they are in the U.S. during the fall? Is pumpkin carving even part of the culture over there?

Not a stupid question at all Scott! Ready for a LONG answer? ;)

I cant speak for all of Europe, but I can speak for Sweden. Pumpkins have very little popularity here. You can find them here at this time of year, but only because about 15 years ago Halloween suddenly became popular here and people wanted to start celebrating it. But that didn’t stick. There are people who celebrate, but very few and not “properly” since they don’t quite get it here.

It’s too cold to grow pumpkins up here. Maybe they can in southern Sweden. Most supermarkets will have a little bin of pumpkins to choose from this time of year. But I can guarantee you it’s probably Americans buying them mostly ;) Swedes don’t really know what to do with them.

Carving is not a big tradition here like it is in the US, but you do see it on the steps of some houses. That also came from the brief Halloween popularity – but that’s something more people have kept than any other Halloween tradition.

You don’t see pumpkin used in food or beverges ANYWHERE.

I carve a pumpkin every year and place it in my apartment window, so I’m sure people always know where The American lives :)

And this is why I miss the US so much this time of year. Pumpkin picking was always one of my favorite things and I miss it terribly!

And that’s a very very very LONG winded answer for you :)

Awesome answer. Obviously I have ties/interest in Holidays so I was really curious about the culture of Halloween over there.

I’m guessing you don’t have corn mazes either?!

        • Irma

Sadly, no!! As I’ve been telling people a LOT this year – fall in Sweden SUCKS: It’s short… (we’ve already had freezing temps), it’s cold and rainy and doesn’t have as many colors. AND, there are no fall holidays or traditions. SO fall goes by unnoticed. And fall, for me, was always my favorite time of year in the US. Always so much to look forward to, so many activities, and such beautiful days.

Wow Irma I love the strip!!! I must say that I feel sad for you about spending fall in Sweden. Im in Cali so I should be having fall weather right now but we got a week of HEAT!! over 100.

So if they dont really celebrate Halloween/fall and dont have corn mazes do they have haunted houses??

OOoooooo and can Mick be a shark for Halloween?? HEHE

  7. Hunter

I liked how you drew Jay’s face. LMAO.

  8. rachael

Tee hee!!! sounds like something i would do!!!

  9. werekitty13

Mick is looking disturbed by the pumpkins. Perhaps he is worried about his color and their color. Maybe Imy will get confused and carve HIM, he wonders…

  10. toni

i forgot! ADVENT! well..nearly Christmas make a comic that Imy and other characters (including Mick) goes caroling! Christmas songs! but mick dosen’t sing (he’s a fish!) or nearly halloween make a comic that they are trick or treating! or BOTH! (using my PSP)

at the risk of letting my masculine side out, Imy’s already got two BIG pumpkins; what’s she need all those others for? ;-)
