    Ahh yes… nature and the beauty of the night. There’s something to be said about camping and just looking up at the sky with a fire going on and hot chocolate to drink :)

    • Irma

      Gosh, yes! I used to go “camping” with my family in our winnebago, and that was what we did every night, watch the stars by the fire and look for satellites :)

    It’s so sad that even in rual areas you can’t see the stars anymore.

    • Irma

      Yes, it is. It’s not as bad here in Sweden, We can drive out of the city for abut 30 minutes and find a great place without much light pollution and see the milky way pretty well. At least…

    As much as I loved my time in NYC, I missed the night sky. You could barely see ANY sky there, let alone stars. Growing up in Phoenix, we’d head out to the mountains in the desert and see the Milky Way…such an amazing site. I love things like that…the planets, meteor showers, the Auroras…I hope that kids are still fascinated by these things.

    • Irma

      I hope they are too. People in urban areas especially need to make a point of taking their kids to see the stars and push how important it is to be able to see them.

    The light bulb has been a mixed blessing: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6457991.stm

    Whilst mostly about sleep, there is some comment about the psychological impact of seeing the stars in this documentary: http://www.cbcshop.ca/CBC/shopping/product.aspx?Product_ID=ERIDE00034&Variant_ID=6168&lang=en-CA

    I definitely can identify with Imy here. I used to go camping as a kid and watch out for shooting stars. And being a city boy most of my life, it wasnt until I was on an island with no electricity to do my thesis in college that I saw the Milky Way. I was utterly blown away that night. I do hope that I’ll be able to show these wonders to my son soon.

    I grew up out in the middle of nowhere. Lack of a night sky is probably the biggest thing I dislike about living in a city. It’s really amazing how much difference the light pollution makes.

    I live in a suburban, conservative little city/town (nicknamed “The Bubble” :P ). At night, you can see the moon and a few stars. Beyond that, it’s luck if you can see anything.

    Anyway, I love this and Monday’s strip. They make me think of nighttime, which makes me think of calmess. ^^;
