I haven’t had an fan art for a while, and now I have a whole bunch in waiting! And what better way to start it off than by posting the very first Cherry fan art?? This one is brought to us by Doug Keech of Fake Life Comic. Since I never give my characters eye colors, Doug usually does that on his own with his fan arts for me. He gave Cherry yellow eyes, wwhich is pretty cool I think! And she looks great! Thank you so much Doug!

So, THAT was not what I expected! I expected about 20 names, but got about 163, with few repeats! Thank you all SO MUCH for joining in on the fun. I got a lot of great suggestions, and, let me tell you, it was HARD to choose.

I wrote all the names into a spreadsheet first (thanks to Doug for that idea!), with the contestants’ names next to them, and then I hid the column with the contestants’ names and alphabetized the submissions, and went through each name. At this point I had no idea who suggested what, and just went by what felt right .I must have gone through the list 20 times, bolding names I liked and crossing out the ones I didn’t think fit. FInally, when I woke up this morning and took another look, one of the names just popped out at me as PERFECT. Once I finalized my decision I made the contestants column visible again to see who suggested it.

Anyway, you want to know the winner dontcha? Just imagine a Drumroll.. and here it is:

And the person who suggested this name is faithful reader Don! Congratulations Don! (Don suggested the first name only. I added the last name myself.)

BUT WAIT! THERE ARE MORE PRIZES!

Once I started to see the amount of entries I decided to create two more smaller prizes to give out as well. You can see all 3 prizes here:

The 2nd prize goes to the name I ALMOST chose. It was very close. But in the end, I just didn’t think it was right. I liked the idea of the last name (and enjoyed the linked YouTube videos as explanation!), but it wasn’t right. SO, The runner up prize of Imy and Mick goes to Kira for the suggestion “Taylor Rockford!”

The 3rd and finmal prize goes to Michael Kinyon for the addition of a great little backstory along with his name suggestions that I just LOVED. I won’t b using it, I have my own backstory from him, but I appreciated the added creativity

“Backstory: He is Portuguese. He is a big fan of, strangely enough, Rockabilly. He heard that Sweden is one of the places where Rockabilly thrives, so he emigrated there a few years ago, hoping to make it in the music business. It didn’t work out, and so he opened the Cafe Rawk.”

Thank you EVERYONE for participating! This was TONS of fun! Now that I know that people are into prizes, I will have more contests coming up and VERY SOON. So don’t dispair, you will have many more chances

As a sidenote, it’s true that VIncent is the only character with a last name at the moment. But that will change VERY soon!

He’s had speaking parts both times, but no name. Now that Imy’s working at Café Rawk, it’s time for him to come back, because he is the OWNER of the café. And this time he needs a name.

That’s where you come in.

Comment on this post with your choice of name. You have a limit of 3 posts/names. Depending on how many entries I’ll get, I may choose my top 5 and have you all vote for them. Otherwise, I’ll just choose my favorite and that will be the winner.

You have 1 week to submit! Submissions will close at midnight MY TIME (CET) on Thursday, June 24th.

Have fun!

I grossly overestimated how well we could handle this move and how quick we could have everything set up afterward. Ha! I also never took into account how sick I would become mid move. Typical. I’m better now but still getting over it. The apartment is starting to take shape, just starting, but we still have stuff EVERYWHERE. And the above picture shows my work area and computer. Until we can figure out where to put all that stuff, my computer isn’t getting set up. Things are moving a lot smoother now so the plan is that it’ll be done by the weekend.

So… I’m going to try this again…

I’m so sorry guys but I was far too confident about the move when I wrote what I wrote in the post above. So the new scheduled date for the next comic is this coming Monday, June 7th. I honestly can’t wait to get back into it. I miss it so much.

I hope you understand and I really appreciate your patience. Once I get my computer up comics will post as usual once again every Monday and Thursday. I just need you to hang on a little while longer.

And I’ll make it up to you. I have a little piece of original art that I think you’ll like that I’ll give away once things are running again. Would you like that?

Asa side note, the move went well, albeit hectically, and I LOVE my new apartment! Can’t wait until everything is set up right!

About a month ago I spoke in my friend’s art class, in a high school here in Stockholm, about my art (mostly about “Imy”). Considering the fact that it was the last class of the day, during the last day of the week before spring break, I’m shocked anyone was paying attention to me at all! But at least one person was, and that person was Andrea – a very talented artist and sweet girl. Last week she stopped by my table at the SPX and gave me a gift int eh form of the above fan art! How cool is that? Andrea does wonderful work and you can see her art over on her Deviant Art page right HERE. Thank you so much Andrea! The fan art is perfect!!

Also, I FINALLY brought back the link for the fan art archive. You can see it over there on the right side underneath the store button. Can’t miss it! (Thank you Jeni for reminding me!).

First, if you missed the SPX related comic I posted today then see it HERE. Also, for all other posts and comics relating to SPX, click HERE.

I’ll start by saying that the lead up to this year’s SPX was a LOT less crazy for me than last year. First of all, last year it was going to be my first con ever, which was pretty terrifying. Second, last year I didn’t know what to expect, having only seen pics of SPX and never been to one. Thirdly, I didn’t think the organization leading up to it (by the organizers) was so great for new people like me. Veterans already knew how things went down, but I didn’t, and the information wasn’t so great. I remember running around a lot and not getting any straight answers about anything from the organizers. But this year they did an EXCELLENT job, and I had zero questions about how things were supposed to be done.

Anyway, moving on…

Saturday was a LOOOOOOOOONG day. This year’s SPX clashed with “Kulturnatt,” which translates to “night of culture.” I’m going to assume there were other “culture” type things going on then, but I don’t know what they were. Because of this, the organizers decided to extend Saturday from the usual 6 or 7 hours to 11 FREGGIN’ hours. Far too long. I was done at 9½. And there weren’t that many people coming through anyway. And those who were had no idea what we were doing there.

But before that happened, it was a busy day. Our tables were smaller than last year becasue they used different sized tables and “split” them in half for each participant. So I was pretty cramped there. Many of us were. But the couple next to me didn’t return on Sunday so I got the whole table for the second day.

Because of the small table situation, and the INSANE popularity of my neighbors, Saturday was a bit of a slow day for me, and my table got overlooked a LOT. People standing and waiting to see the couple next to me crowded my table all day long. Anyone who had any interest at those moments would give up and walk away.

But Sunday it all worked out very well. I had the whole table to myself and I was able to spread everything out a bit more and catch more attention. More people stopped to talk to me, which was nice. The very first guy who stopped by my table thought I had a very professional set up. He ended up buying both my books which was very cool. In fact, a LOT of people who stopped by the table decided to buy both books, which surprised me, especially when they’d never even heard of “Imy” before! And a LOT of people that bought book 0.5 last year CAME BACK to buy book 0.5½! Many people commented positively on my strange numbering system. I’m glad they all pretty much found it funny instead of ridiculous. And the strips that I chose to display on the table, in both English & Swedish versions, got BIG LAUGHS, which was also a lot of fun.

Fredrik Strömberg came by my table and talked with me a little bit about my comic and then bought BOTH my books which was very, very cool. His website is here, and in English! You should check it out. A lot of interesting stuff about comics in general and nordic based comics.

In the end I ended up selling 27 books total, and some buttons and bookmarks here and there. Unfortunately, I only had the old bookmarks to sell, since the volcano disrupted the shipping of my new ones, but it was a minor set back.

I went around on my own and visited some tables and bought some things as well. I may write a post about what I picked up later. I haven’t had any time to look at anything yet. I did get to see Alberto Corradi, an Italian artist who’s table was across from mine last year and who I’ve kept in light contact with on FB ever since. Unfortunately, by the time I got to him he had sold out of all of his own stuff! But he gave me an AWESOME poster of his characters Mostro & Morto and I bought a book from him of another Italian cartoonist. But I do think I will do a post on all of that later on.

Here’s a small collage of the locale (click for bigger). Turns out I didn’t end up taking THAT many pictures. But I think I took enough anyway.

“

Thanks to those of you that came out and stopped by to support me! It means a LOT.

All in all it was a fun time, and I’m looking forward to it again next spring! But first, It’s time to start preparing for New York Comic Con in October! WOO!

It’s been a year since I did the first t-shirt order and I think it’s time to do it again. There has been interest expressed and, also, I’d like to order some to take with my to NYCC in October. So it’s a good time to gauge interest. So, we’re talking the ROCK t-shirts again! Check out THIS POST with pics from a BUNCH of readers happily wearing their own ROCK tees. If you’re interested it having one of your own, let me know in the comments (or send me an email at irma(AT)imycomic.com.)

I’m doing this the same way as last year – I’ll gauge the interest now. Then I’ll do pre-orders for about a month or so. Then I’ll order the t-shirts. Sound good? Now comment!!
