133 – How It Began
Ahhh I do love irony.
I know I’ve been so bad with keeping up with comments. Please know that I appreciate every comment that left here. Things have just been pretty crazy for me lately. I can’t begin to tell you how busy I’ve been. With all the preparations for the expo (9 days left!) I’m already overwhelmed. Add in about a million other things that are weighing on me right now and it’s amazing I haven’t cracked from all the stress yet! Anyway, if you look below “news” you’ll see the buttons and books. I got my flyers today too. So I’m pretty much all set for the expo. I’m very excited about it!
Haha! Perfect, Irma. Of course that’s how it would start.
Love this! Nice flashback strip.
Good luck at the expo!
reminds me how i got into metal…..
i saw the video for metallica’s “one’ and it was love at first hearing!!!!!
mix tapes…I remember them so 🙂
Yeah, I did the mix-tape thing too. Mostly Classical (parts of Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 5, 6 & 9; the “Dies Irae” from Berlioz’s Requiem, and several others) but I also had Elton John’s “Philadelphia Freedom”, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” (I’d just seen Wayne’s World) Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon”, Electric Light Orchestra’s “Fire on High”, Dan Fogelberg’s “Longer” and LED Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”. I eventually filled two 2-hour tapes with stuff I either taped from vinyl or the radio — and eventually wore both out! Luckily, I eventually got the CDs and was able to listen to the pristine versions.
Haha! Awesome! Actually, I didn’t like them right off the bat at that time, it took me another two years to get into that music. I can’t believe I didn’t like them at that time… ehh, I was a freshman in hs, what you expect!
Figured Mia would be the start of her own problems with Zoe.
That blonde looks familiar – is that Vikki?
Ah, 1991 Smashing Pumpkins. The Gish era. I was too busy listening to Buddy Holly and The Beatles from my dads LP collection to notice modern rock. It was stumbling across Alternative Nation one night after Bevis & Butthead that I discovered Smashing Pumpkins with the video of Bullet With Butterfly Wings. I was an instant fan and I taped Alternative Nation every night and discovered so many other bands.
Noooooo! I’m all caught up now. This isn’t fair, I want more! Guess I have to wait a few days like the rest of the world now. Kinda like when I caught up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 🙁 Anyway, I just have to say Irma, I have sooo missed Imy, but nursing school got in the way. But now I am back and so happy you are still at it. Imy just keeps getting better and better!
Don’t worry Irma, we still love you. By the way, good luck at the expo!
how cute, imy’s beginnings. hope we see more of these 🙂
Brock – Thanks! And yes, of course!
Scott – THANKS!
Tyler – Cool! Yup, it absolute a LIFE CHANGING moment.
Teresa – Oh yes! I had many!
reynard – I had sooooo many that I filled with with stuff from the radio. I remember listening to a particular station for hours, fingers ready on REC waiting for a certain song…
Jeff – Me neither! I got into Soundgarden with “Superunknown” and Smashing Pumpkins with “Siamese Dream.” In 91 I hadn’t yet really discovered music. It all happened for me the summer of 92. BUT when it happened, it was R&B and HipHop!!! Hahahaha! I bet no one would have guessed that. It wasn’t until a year later that I really discovered Rock and “changed my tune.”
me! – You are incredible! It actually isn’t Vikki, BUT when I was drawing her I too noticed that she had similar facial qualities and a similar hair color. I honestly didn’t think anyone would EVER make a connection. I underestimate my readers!
Vince – Oh man, Beavis & Butthead! I remember the first time I watched that. I was at the Jersey shore with my parents and best friend. And my friend and I were watching TV and it came on. We sat there saying “this is the stupidest show ever…” and then we laughed all the way through it. Saw every episode after that I think LOL
Leslie – Yaaaaaay! How cool! I’m so happy you finally were able to catch up again! You were, after all, there from the very beginning!
Blaze – Haha Thanks!
gilly – You will!
Like Peter Parker getting bit by the irradiated spider, or Dr. Bruce Banner getting nailed by the Gamma bomb, There we have the making of a RAWK GAWDESS! 😯
