376 – Venus the Dot
Depending on where you are in the world, the Venus Transit is happening either tonight, for you, or tomorrow morning. For me it’s going to be early tomorrow morning. The sun rises at 3:30, so I’ll be getting up at 4 to CLEAR SKIES (positive thinking), and heading out with the solar viewing glasses I ordered just for this event!
If you need info on the Venus Transit you can check out THIS PAGE on Space.com. I hope you guys get to see it! And, BOY do I hope that I get to as well!
And, of course, I had to make a comic about this as well over on my other comic, “Cosmical.” So go check that out as well.
AND becasue I’m a total nerd, I made some iPhone and iPad wallpaper that is Venus Transit themed, and you can find those on my “Cosmical” site. Go get those HERE.
I am right with Imy on the cyborg body. Hopefully mine is ready as well. 🙂
Did you peeps know that people with pacemakers or replacment joints are considered simple cyborgs? cybernetics WILL catch up! Calling Kevin Warwick…
I wanted to go out early too. But weather forecast is too bad for central europe so unfortunately I had to cancel it. What a pity!
By the way, the transit will be at the upper part of the sun, not at the lower one. Or are they observation the 2004 transit? In this case it’s correct.
Sadly it was cloudy here in Stockholm too! I was so crushed when I stood outside and watched the clouds move in and completely cover the sky, ruining my view. Cyborg bodies are now NECESSARY! 🙂
Oh and thanks! I fixed the location of Venus now! I had been looking at pics from the 2004 one!
Upper vs. lower depends what side of the planet you’re on – the people on the other side are upside down. Note that if you follow the sun across the sky, the side you call “top” in the morning has become “bottom” by evening.
Thanks for making this comic. I hadn’t heard of the transit until I read your strip this morning. I didn’t have any eye protection handy, so I projected it onto a piece of paper from my telescope instead. Pretty cool 🙂
I’m happy that I helped spread awareness of the event for others to see! I ended up missing it myself due to clouds, but any time I get people to pay attention to the sky pleases me! 🙂
And, yes, you’re right about the orientation depending on where you are on the Earth. But, while I don’t give “Imy” a specific city, I think it’s safe to say she’s in the Northern Hemisphere. So I fixed it more appropriately.
I have a friend in SoCal who saw it move from the 1 o-clock position to the 5 o’clock position. Again, orientation depending on location on the Earth. But, I figured I’ll just show it here as it was officially shown with the “top” of the sun on top 😉
