21 – Schmoopie
See how slick I am? Finally, two names slipped nicely into the strip. And I’m stickin’ with ’em! This sudden revelation comes with a push from a fellow (superior) comic-artist who urged me to give my other two characters names FOR THE LOVE OF GOD already. Okay, so he didn’t say “FOR THE LOVE OF GOD already,” but I wouldn’t have blamed him if he did.
I’ve been avoiding the name thing it, since I have a hard time picking names. They’re an identity! So I can’t just go picking names willy-nilly (I have never used that term in my life before now). And these characters were, at first, based on people I know. And those people already have names, so it makes it very difficult to chose something else. However, the characters have evolved into having their own identities now and, with each strip, get further and further away from any real-life person. So it was high time they were named.
So there we have it, Katrina and Jakob (a.k.a. ‘Kat’ and ‘Jay’ respectively).

Woo! Names are good!
Love the look Imy is giving Kat in the last frame!
The Hover bar? That sounds like a happening place. Very futuristic.
😀

Great strip! Kat’s expression in the last panel is excellent. I like the name Katrina. It’s my wife’s name and she also goes by Kat. Nice choice.
Leslie: Thanks!
Heather: It sure is! You’ll get to see it soon…
me! 😛
Wit: Mr Burns I presume? 😀 (and thanks again!)
Scott: REALLY?!?!?! Honestly, I wanted her to have the nickname “Kat” and at first I thought it would be for “Katherine,” but I didn’t care for it. So after some researching I decided I really liked Katrina. I can’t believe that’s your wife’s name too! I must have good taste in names then 😀 And thanks!
Irma: Yeah, it’s pretty cool coincidence because you don’t see many Katrinas. Some people call her Katrina, some call her Kat. She doesn’t care, as long as no one calls her Trina.
One question about your art: do you do it in Illustrator or Photoshop?
Scott: I do all the drawing in illustrator. Then I assemble the strip, panels and characters and all, and do all the coloring in photoshop, usually. Sometimes I’ll do some bits of the background in illustrator with color as well (like the strip where she’s sitting on the couch and eating M&Ms, the side table is done in illustrator).
Hehe, making gag faces is funny. 😀 People on their cellphones need to learn respect!!! Or they will get more gag faces. 😀
That’s friendship for you… (or is it jealousy?)
