This just reminds me, on the last day of April every year in Sweden we have a bonfires all over the country for Valborg (Walpurgis). I go to a huge one in the center of town every year by the water. It’s so big that everyone standing around it usually has to stand about 25 feet away. Any closer and you can feel your face melting off. One of these years I need to be very American about it and just take a marshmallow on a stick with me and see how close I can get and if it will toast :)

Inspired by the recent barrage of solar storms that have been hitting this planet. I could say “we’re entering a solar maximum” now, but that probably doesn’t mean much to many people because you’re probably not as big as a geek as I am about these things. :) Let’s just say that solar activity is UP (it goes through cycles). Last time it was up like this was when I moved here about 9 years ago. I saw some amazing displays of auroras then. But nothing in the past 9 years, until this past year. Since then I’ve seen it several times from flights back to Sweden. And I’m trying to see it fromt eh ground again, but it’s so freggin’ cloudy!

I remember back around 2004 (I THINK), such a huge storm hit the planet and auroras reached so far south that people could see them from every state in the continental US. So it’s possible. And we’re entering a time period where it’s possible again!

When I was a kid I was obsessed with rainbows. I drew them everywhere. And I drew them int eh correct color order fromt he very beginning. Even before I learned Roy G. Biv. It used to drive me CRAZY when other kids world draw their rainbows in random color orders. But I loved them, so I made sure to get them right.

I didn’t see my first rainbow until I was 4 years old, back in 1985. I remember it very clearly because I had loved rainbows so much, I was dying to see one. I was in our Winnebago with my mom, dad, brother, sister and brother’s girlfriend. We were driving cross country from NJ to Cali and back for a two week vacation. And we were somewhere in the plains, possible Oklahoma, when we went through a strong thunderstorm. And there, on the other side of the storm, was my very first rainbow. It is one of the very first really HAPPY memories I have. :)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! For those who celebrate, of course :) This is one of my favorite holidays. And it’s extra special for me living over here in Sweden because it’s the best holiday meal I have all year, and it helps me feel a little at home (while making me terribly homesick at the same time ;) )

Anyway, two days ago I was looking for something in my closet and found my rubrik’s snake which I used to LOVE as a kid. Now I have it on my desk. The sad thing is that the middle joint is loose, probably because that’s where I always bent it the most. Oh well. It instantly inspired today’s strip.

Enjoy the long weekend, those of you lucky enough to have it! (not me, of course, le sigh)
