Happy Birthday to “Imy!”

Considering that I had 2 milestones coming so close to each other, I wasn’t sure which one should get the most attention. I think the #100 strip one wins out though, which will be by in a few weeks. But I can’t go on without mentioning that today 1 year since I posted my very first Imy strip.

#1 – No Snow

When I started a year ago I had no idea I’d end up where I am today. I had thought of the idea for the strip the day before, and implemented it pretty much right away. At that point I didn’t really know what it would be about. I just thought I’d take things from my own life and make strips about it. Which is why Imy has brown hair to begin with. But I soon figured out that Imy was her own person entirely and she deserved her own stories. So entered the red hair and eventually the “Rock” t-shirt which really set things in motion and gave Imy her identity.

I am so happy that I made it to one year and I have NO intention of stopping soon. I feel like this is one of the best things I’ve done, and I’m very proud. Thank you all so much for reading, and commenting, and just being there. Even those of you who don’t comment – I know you’re there and I appreciate so much that you continue to read. I can’t explain what a thrill it is to make something for me, yet have so many people enjoy it as well.

Stay tuned for strip #100! It’ll be here before you know it!

Redesigned!

I took a look at the site today and decided it needed a makeover. Something a little more… rock’n’roll. 😉 I had a different idea for the header, but after a while I decided that the image from comic #92 was PERFECT to use (tweaked a bit, though). The site’s darker and a bit bolder, but I think I like it. I know I have to make new banners now, but I’m too tired. Maybe tomorrow 🙂 And now I’m off to bed!

Giving myself a break

I really need this this week. I need to miss today’s update. I’m so sorry. But I haven’t missed an update in a VERY VERY long time (in the spring I think?), so I think it’s okay that I do now. It’s for personal reasons. But I promise that I’ll be back for Monday. 🙂 Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Imy and Kat Sketch – Take 2

Remember this pencil sketch I did a few weeks ago? Well tonight I finally had the chance to ink it (real ink ON paper). It was a challenge, since I’m really not used to it. And I learned something new – since I get so nervous while inking, I end up holding my breath for too long. I should probably work on that…

Anyway, after I inked it, I scanned it in and colored it in Photoshop. Which is the first time I’ve ever done that. I color digitally all the time. But I never before colored something that was done in paper and ink and scanned in. And also I’ve only just done very few sketches on paper up till now anyway.

Here’s the result!

Imy and Kat at the Bar

I am SO proud of myself. This is a big step for me! Of course I have a lot to learn, but this proves that if I wanted to I COULD draw my strips in paper and ink, and then post-produce in photoshop. I don’t think I’ll be making that crossover, but I will definitely be doing more separate pieces this way.

I wonder if I should make this into a desktop…
