85 - Pumpkin Process

Man… I gotta say… it is SO nice not to have to draw that eye patch anymore.

Just for the heck of it, I am trying a different font in this one for the dialog. What do you think?

I really like the look of this strip! I only wish I lived in a place that experienced fall for more than a week! Plus a pumpkin patch must be so cool!
P.S. I really enjoyed the whole Kid Rock story!

I love it!! The font looks great and so does all of the rest of it! :)

Poor Jay! But I guess this is payback for the whole guitar-string-eye-maiming incident. ;)

Cyndi - Thank you! Glad you liked it! That’s one of the things in my “Top 5 things I miss about New Jersey” list. Going to a pumpkin patch. It was a yearly tradition. I ADORED it.

Dani - Thank you! Yeah I’m really digging the font too. Looks more “handwritten” and less stiff.

Utahrougue - Thank you! I DO! And I’ve been feeling better lately, which I’m sure comes out in the art in this strip.

Daniel - As if smacking him in the eye with the eyepatch wasn’t enough! But maybe it wasn’t, since he didn’t end up having to wear an eyepatch himself :)

    OMG charlie brown!
    it’s the great pumpkin..patch.
(from eye patch to pumpkin patch..that’s funny.)
    like the font looks good.

    Really great looking panel Irma.

I dig the multi-layered background. Looks like he survived the eye-patch assault. Yeay!

I can kind of relate to this…hahaha Nicely done!

I like this strip, very well done, and if I didn’t know any better, I would think you were watching my wife & I when she goes “pumpkin shopping”.

Also, just on a personal note, I prefer the previous font - I like the spacing of it better, making the dialogue easier to read. This isn’t unreadable by any means, it just doesn’t “flow” like earlier strips.

    Keep up the great work!

LMAO… that’s too funny! I do this when we’re at Best Buy with the movies…

    The colors are great!!

I always go for the biggest pumpkins in the patch, wink, wink.

I think Jay should deem himself lucky they are all small enough to carry.

tyler - Haha! You just reminded me, I should did out my Charlie Brown and Garfield Halloween DVDs. Helps make me feel like I’m home!

    Tom - THANKS!

tbowl - Thanks! And yeah, I think an eyepatch in the eye wasn’t as bad as a guitar string in the eye!

    Teresa - Hehe thank you!

Josh - Hey thanks!! And thank you for letting me know hat you think about the font as well. I understand what you mean. As much as I like the “scribbled” look of this font, it works in this strip because there isn’t much dialog in it. But it may be too much of a crammed font for a more dialog heavy strip.

Luna: Hey you! Thanks!! So does T have to walk around carrying all your DVDs for you? ;)

Trent - Ha!! And you’re right… but she’s not through the entire patch yet! Who knows what he’ll end up having to carry! (or roll a la “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”) :D

No bolding in this strip, so only a partial judgement. It ‘looks nicer’, but it’s not as easy to read as the previous font. The weird kerning and angular cee throw me off.

Hey! That’s MY font! Give it back! Obviously I like it if I’m using it. Looking back at the “old’ one though, it looks handwritten too, so either will work.

13 comments before I even read the darn thing? Someone’s becoming popular. Wish it was me… :(

  16. Irma | October 16th, 2008 | 8:07 pm

elmindreda - Thanks for those points! Looks like the old font is winning out.

me! - REALLY? I thought it looked familiar… and I was clicking through some strips to see if someone else used it, but I guess I never checked yours! No worries though, I do think I’ll go back to the old one :)

And yeah I can’t believe the comments today! I don’t think I ever got so many on the first day of a strip!

Wow! I love, love, love this strip. You’re a whiz with the colors, Irma. And I love the new font. It’s a keeper and fits very well with the strip.
