127 – Earth Hour
Anyone taking part in Earth Hour this weekend? Considering the amount of time I spend on the computer for my comic, I think I owe it to the Earth to purposely shut down for an hour. (Okay, I admit it… I’m going to cheat. I’ll PROBABLY be bowling… but everything in the apartment will be off!) Oh AND If so many people take part, for each city, wouldn’t there be an incredible surge of power when Earth Hour is over and all the computers and TVs etc. turn back on??
I have spent this week so far working working non-stop on a book to sell at the expo. It’s a small but very cool “best of” sampler, and it’s ALL in color. I put in the order for it last night. So now I can just hope and pray that everything goes smoothly so that it gets here on time and turns out alright. Please send good comic book vibes my way for that! Otherwise my table at the expo is going to be very empty, and I will be a very sad comic artist.
And on a completely different note, tomorrow, the 27th, I celebrate 6 years in Sweden. That means that 6 years ago today I left my apartment for the last time, and bid my parents farewell at Newark airport. I can’t believe it. I have now officially spent more of my adult life in Sweden than in the US. That’s both very cool and very scary at the same time.

i rarely have the light on in my room anyway so i have been contributing for a long time… lol
poor imy maybe she can use smoke signals to update facebook 🙂
Cartoonist. That is the correct noun for what you are. Even more correct: webcartoonist. On a slightly related note: when I hit college “English major” might be the way to go if I can’t stop correcting people.
As for Earth Hour… my internet went out for 5 minutes today and I almost writhed in pain from the withdrawl while I waited for the DSL to get back on.
Sorry, Earth, I love you, I really do, but you’re too needy for this to work. I.. I’m with Venus now. I’m sorry, but she’s beautiful and knows how to love me in a way you just.. don’t.
I actually looked up the Roman goddess Venus for that. I get WAY too into my jokes.
I turn off my electricity every night between 11pm and 7am. Sometimes I even throw in that extra hour and make it 8am, so I don’t believe another hour on Saturday will help that much. Plus, around here in the summer I rarely turn the lights on for a month or more.
Haha! To be honest… I already planned to go bowling during that hour before I even realized what it was. But at least everything in the apartment will be off!
And yes, Doug. Cartoonist. I don’t know why I have trouble calling myself that. I don’t think I believe it yet! 🙂
I hate to do this, but it’s “catastrophic”. Happy 6th year anniversary!!! Where does the time go?!
Argh! I can never pick out typos! And my editor didn’t do his job! DANIEL!!!! Now I have to wait HOURS until I can get home to fix it. *scream*
That’s annoying – I’ll be out of the house this year. Last time, though, I dropped my mobile in the toilet in the dark within the first 5 minutes… I had to buy a new one, and I’m on my 4th since then… I also seem to remember banging my knee in the dark.
i see you’ve been hanging with my wife.
That’s just a terrific strip! And of course you’re a cartoonist! You create cartoons, don’t you? 🙂 Good luck at the Expo!
I hope everything goes well at the Expo! How exciting and scary for you! *hugs* I’m so happy for you!
With your cell phone, silly….
Is there a specific time we’re supposed to power everything off this weekend? I saw it somewhere but now I forget. SOMEBODY E_MAIL ME!!!
nevermind…i checked the link. lol
Ha, love the silhouettes Irma.
Speaking of being a cartoonist, I think your use of the eyes is awesome! It really did well in showing their moods at the moment very well ( the fourth panel I can just see Imy with a pouty face and Jay with his rolling eyes)
LOVE the coloring in this one…nice blue night.
I like the animation of the clouds in the background passing by. Nice touch. 🙂
And congrats on the 6 years, Irma. Amazing how time flies…when my wife and I moved from Phoenix to NYC in 1995, I had no idea we’d be there 12 years. That’s 2/3rds of our marriage!
GREAT STRIP! I’m a new fan! Love the art, style and writting. Keep it up!

ok i will turn off the light in my room BUT THE LAPTOP STAYS ON!!! i would die without internet lol, even if it was just for an hour
I just realized. Imy looks like a halloween ghost in this. Maybe you should get imy to style her hair or something so it’s not an amorhous hanging “blob”?
Or, I could just be crazy. 😛
I’ve heard of Earth Day but when did this newfangled Earth Hour start up.
Since I already live in a solar powered-off the grid, geothermal heated, cistern barreled, biotrash composting eco-yurt, I’m going to pass.
Irma, will you be doing this bowling in the dark with trained monkeys setting the pins and rolling the balls back? Otherwise you aren’t reducing your carbon footprint, just moving. May as well be flying around with Al Gore in his private jet.
Thanks everyone!
Haha! That’s why I said I was “cheating,” Trent. I already had bowling in the plans before I knew it was earth hour. Besides, I didn’t wan to add to the big surge afterwards 😉
Jeff, THANKS for noticing the eyes! I tried to make them as full as expression as possible, considering the circumstances.
You could have used your laptop… which got me thinking: I charged it with electricity so it wouldn’t be fair, but then I though: “Nah, I’ll leave logic behind… but then it hit me: The wireless router had to be plugged in…
And that’s when I came to my senses: “The neighbor doesn’t care about Earth Hour” So, I used his!
GOOD GAWD! NO FACEBOOK??? *gallops off screaming*
