341 – Bonfire Night
This just reminds me, on the last day of April every year in Sweden we have a bonfires all over the country for Valborg (Walpurgis). I go to a huge one in the center of town every year by the water. It’s so big that everyone standing around it usually has to stand about 25 feet away. Any closer and you can feel your face melting off. One of these years I need to be very American about it and just take a marshmallow on a stick with me and see how close I can get and if it will toast 🙂

Imy, what you did… is AWESOME!!
been there. done that. with a fire that size, it wouldn’t catch fire further than three feet away. maybe even two.
Used to have these on the Saturday night of the local Community festival every year. [ I miss those] The scouts would assemble [waves] what materials were donated for the fire into something resembling safe. We added various powdered metals / salts for added colour effects. [yay chemistry] Then the fire department would do an inspection and supervise the lighting by the marshal of honor.
One year a local renovator donated the materials not worth salvaging from a renovation at t the local mall. Did you know that melamine counter-tops flame a very bright green when they flash-over?
[ yes the marshmallows burst into flame at a meter but roasted nicely at two]
Makes me think of this:
OK, that didn’t work right. Let’s try this: Crazy World of Arthur Brown – Fire (1968) at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kAeo4C9Kw0.
In the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), we have a rule – if you can’t get close enough to the fire to put wood on it, the fire doesn’t need more wood.
I see a guitar. Any chance this can become a Bon Scott Fire?
This reminds me of the time back in highs school, where we drove around and gathered up every single dried up christmas tree we could find. Then we put them on the fire. What a light show that was.
Forget Donald Trump; it’s IMY who’ll fire you!!! (and I’m not KINDLING either) 😀
That is so me. I LOVE CAMPFIRES! I love sitting their and watching the fire move and sparks fly, making it look like fireflys. I also love making it as big as possible.
