I usually keep a few Siamese fighting fish around. If you put them in a fairly large-ish container, like one that holds ~2 gallons, you can also keep 2 or 3 females and they all “more or less” get along. To keep things interesting, I shop flea markets and always pick up interesting clear crystal items, such as whiskey tumblers, wine glasses, shot glasses, etc. and place them in the bowls in creative arrangements & odd angles. Every time I change the water out I clean them and re-arrange them.
The “commute” around the bowl is quite a maze of clear crystal in clear water. No path is is easy as it appears. Also gives the females obstacles so they don’t get directly attacked easily or often. Having 2 or 3 in a bowl with a single male also ensures that no one of them gets harmed seriously, apart from the occasional, minor fin nip … and, the bowls are pretty active. Since there’s three bowls within close sight of each other, all the fish are constantly on display and moving. For a couple hours in the afternoon the sun shines directly on them and I get rainbows from the crystal, in addition to the cool colors of the fish.
Hey, at least he doesn’t have to pay for gas or bus or train fare.

Some folks would kill for that commute.
Gets monotonous, I know how he feels, I go from the bedroom next door to my office, to the kitchen and back.
