It is being reported that the inhabitants of the small asteroid were deeply concerned to see Chelyabisnk approaching. To their great fortune, they exploded with the force of about 20 Hiroshima bombs before Chelyabisnk could come in contact with them.

(This from some of my Russian friends, who know more than a little bit about living in Chelyabisnk … so please don’t flame me as some sort of racist/nationalist with a thing against Russians. Its gallows humor from a region that has suffered immeasurable hardship … and then the frickin’ sky detonated over their heads, blowing out several hundred acres of windows and their frames in what is effectively the heart of Siberia in winter. All my best thoughts and wishes for everyone affected.)
